Belgian attack Twitter troll now thought to be from Nigeria – not Liverpool

A Twitter user – supposedly geolocated to Anfield – is now thought to have been based in Nigeria

A sick Twitter user who celebrated yesterday’s terror attacks in Belgium is thought to be based in Nigeria.

The user – who claimed to be based in Liverpool – caused Merseyside Police to launch an investigation into his vile messages.

While detectives are continuing to investigate the account, police have now confirmed they do not believe the user is from the area.

The account – geo-located to the Anfield area – the messages were posted in part Hindi and part English.

The account congratulated the suspected suicide bombers who unleashed horror at Brussels Airport and on the city’s metro system, leaving at least 30 people dead and scores injured.

The series of shocking statements included threats and warnings, and even poked fun at the sickening attacks.

One read: “I was really proud of those who carried-out Belgium Attacks More To Come.”

Another read: “RIP for those who carried-out Belgium Attacks Germany, Denmark and UK next…”

Last night, Merseyside Police confirmed its specialist Sigma unit was probing the account under hate crime laws.

But, in a short update this morning, a spokesman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that we are continuing to investigate a Twitter account posting about the Brussels terrorist attacks.

“Initial enquiries suggest that the tweets emanate from Nigeria, and are not linked to the Merseyside area.”
