Oil communities back Kachikwu on NNPC’s unbundling

Following the decision of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to unbundle the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), leaders of oil and gas producing communities in the Niger Delta, yesterday lauded the minister’s initiative, saying that it would ensure efficiency, profitability and transparency in the corporation.

The leaders, who spoke in Warri, Delta State, through the Niger Delta Oil Communities Agenda (NIDOCA) in a statement issued by Emmanuel Akpovoka, secretary-general and Clement Komboye, director of publicity, also slammed those opposed to the unbundling of the corporation, adding that they were shocked at the attitude of some individuals and groups openly rejecting the unbundling of the organisation.

They said: “We must educate those opposing the unbundling of NNPC properly that it is no longer business as usual in NNPC, where over the years; NNPC was the ATM machine of few to the detriment of Nigerians and the country.”
