NCC arrests man for pirating Multichoice TV signals in Enugu

The Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Uchechukwu Ezeodili for unauthorised retransmission of Multichoice television signals.

A director in the commission, Mr Augustine Amodu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday that Ezeodili of No. 32 Ozobu Street, Idaw River, Enugu, specialised in illegal transmission of the signals to the neigbourhood to earn a living.

Amodu said that people subscribed to the service at a cost lower than Mutichoice charges as he collected between N1000 and N1500 from his customers.

The director said that the commission had carried similar operation in the suspect’s residence where he was arrested and discharged on promise that he would not return to the business.

He said that the suspect was illegally transmitting the signals to more than 100 households in his area.

“The suspect is a stubborn man, he was apprehended four years ago on this issue but was later released on the condition that he will not do it again,” he said.
“No fewer than 13 satellite dishes, boosters, wires and a ladder was recovered from the suspect in the early morning operation.

A Multichoice official who pleaded anonymity told NAN that the illegal activity was discovered through routine surveillance, adding that the suspect had been on it for years.
