One of the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps attached to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has been killed by armed robbers in Ile-Ife.
While trying to flee after an operation, the armed robbers sighted the Civil Defence official who was in uniform and shot him to death.
A witness said the Civil Defence operative who was carrying a gun was in front of the residence of the monarch and that the armed robbers who had operated somewhere else saw him with his gun and shot him.
The Oba Ogunwus’s media aide, Mr Moses Olafare said the gunmen shot the Civil Defence officer because of the gun they saw with him. He described the incident as unfortunate and prayed God to give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
The spokesperson of Osun State Command of NSCDC, Mr Wale Folarin confirmed the incident and assured that the armed robbers would be apprehended.
The killers went away with the gun of the NSCDC official. The official died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife”.
