#NLC shut down Ikeja IKEDC over tariff increase

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had shut down Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) over the recently upward review of electricity tariff by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Addressing protesters who matched from Ikeja under bridge along Awolowo way Ikeja to the head office of IKEDC, the President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, represented by the First Vice President and President General, National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood workers (NUCCFWW), Comrade Amaechi Asugwuni, stated that until the Federal Government reverse the tariff increase, the protesters will not leave the street.

According to him, “without bringing down the tariff, the protests will not end. Nigerians are not ready to pay for darkness. It is not done anywhere in the world. It is in Nigeria that you pay for darkness.

“Having invested several billions of dollars in the power sector, yet we do not have a stable power supply. How can you increase power tariff without increasing the power supply. “
