Man In Court Over Alleged Forgery Of N4.7m Cheque

A 28-year-old man, Mohammed Mamudu, who allegedly forged a cheque of N4.7 million, was on Monday arraigned in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Mamudu, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and stealing.

The Prosecutor, DSP Sunday Ekong, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 12.

He alleged that the accused conspired with others still at large and forged a Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC cheque No. 5080088138 with intent to steal the N4.7 million.
“The money belonged to Hallmark International Nursery and Primary School, Lagos,’’ he said.

Ekong said the offences contravened Sections 285 (1), 361 (1) (a) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused denied committing the offence.

The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafek, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till Feb. 22 for mention. (NAN)
