Fatima Isa, the last survivor of a stampede last year which killed hundreds of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia has returned.
She arrived Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday January 22 aboard a Med-View Airline Flight VL0202, accompanied by staff of the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah, said the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria in a statement.
Spokesman of the commission Uba Mana said Isa appeared well and was received on arrival by staff of the NAHCON and leadership of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency and had since been conveyed to Sokoto, her home state.
Mana commended the Saudi Arabian authorities and Nigeria’s mission in Saudi Arabia for taking care of the pilgrim throughout her stay in hospital, and the Sokoto State Government for its support.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal visited Hajiya Isa in the Saudi Arabia hospital where he gave her N500, 000.
At least 724 pilgrims, many from Sokoto, died in the stampede, according to the commission.
Forty-four others were declared missing.
Others were admitted for treatments in various hospitals including the East Jeddah Hospital from where Hajiya Isa was discharged.
