The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze with low visibility values over the central states of Abuja, Bida, Lafia, Yola, Ilorin, Makurdi and Nassarawa on Monday.
The predictions are contained in the Weather Outlook issued by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office (CFO) on Sunday in Abuja.
It added that the region would have night time temperatures of between 15 to 19 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
NiMet predicted that the coastal cities of Lagos, Yenegoa, Port Harcourt, Eket and Calabar would have prospect of hazy condition with night time temperatures of 15 to 22 degrees Celsius.
It also predicted that the inland cities of Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Enugu, Awka, Owerri and Ibadan would experience dust haze conditions during the forecast period.
It predicted that northern states would experience dust haze conditions with deterioration in visibility over Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Potiskum and Gombe with night time temperatures of 09 to 16 degrees Celsius.
According to the prediction, observation shows persistent transport of dust particles from the Sahara region into the country.
“Deterioration in horizontal visibility is anticipated over the North, Central and Inland cities of the South. Haziness is expected to prevail over the coast.
“During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty.
“Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks while flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country,’’ it added.
